Sure, my jerk of a fiancé got himself murdered, but that doesn't mean I did it! Oh well. With the castle guards closing in, I made a dramatic escape through the nearest window and ended up with a broken ankle. As if things couldn’t get worse, I’ve been whisked away to Villeurbanne, a secretive, technology-driven kingdom hidden in a bunker and crawling with...vampires?
Princess Elisabeta and Prince Vulpes both have their eyes on me, and they're fighting to get their fangs on me, too. I mean, sure, they're both charming and dangerously captivating, but I can't possibly choose one sibling over the other, can I?
And then there's the unsolved death of the vampire queen, Lisia and Vulpes's mother. This little kingdom seems so lovely and quaint, but something is seriously not right. I could always go back to Carcassonne and face my murder charge head-on, but maybe staying here in the seductive shadows of Villeurbanne is the better move. Becoming a vampire's bride in a town haunted by secrets can't be that bad, right?!
Oh, no! Oh, crap! I finally kinda sorta figured out a way to date both Princess Lisia and Prince Vulpes at the same time without them ripping each other's heads off (or mine), but now Prince Vulpes has been gravely wounded. Even worse, he was attacked on his way up to Carcassonne. Ya know... The place where I've still got a murder charge hanging over me.
Thank God he survived, but now he's clammed up. He knows a lot more about his attackers than he's letting on, and it turns out that Lisia's harbouring secrets, too! Both of them seem perfectly content to leave me in the dark about darn near everything while expecting me to just smile and play along. Little do they know: Duchess Persephone doesn't play like that.
I've taken matters into my own hands and started digging into all of the vampire royals' secrets. What's this about a coup? The Princess and the Prince aren't nearly as popular among Villeurbanne's citizens as I thought, and my association with them has painted a target right on my back! I need to figure out who's really involved with this deception, and fast, before we all end up permanently staked like Queen Margeaux.
Welp, I did it. I agreed to a dual engagement with Lisia and Vulpes in exchange for the genocide of Carcassonne. Yay, me. Even worse, I'm now the secret Princess of Neo Carcassonne, a paranormal extension of Villeurbanne that exists where the old Carcassonne burned, and I've forced my mother to be the Queen of Neo Carcassonne.
Her Grace Serenity, Queen of Neo Carcassonne is not pleased with me. Nor does she approve of me marrying a vampire.
While Neo Carcassonne is rebuilt from the ground up, it's time for me to look into the murky depths of the Traditionalists' rebellion. I still need to find out who killed Queen Margeaux, and I need to figure out what role George's dad played in the interconnected fates of Carcassonne and Villeurbanne. But with my wedding date on the horizon, I don't have much time. I've got to solve some of these mysteries while deciding which of my vampire fiancés truly holds my heart. At least, I've got a slew of friends in Villeurbanne that I can trust with this dilemma, right? Right??
